How in the heck do wear a square hijab??...and other stuff.LOL
Posted by Inspired Muslimah at 10:37 PMSalaams! Today I received a bunch of cool stuff in the mail, alhamdullilah! My order from starscarves arrived and they are officially my favorite place to order from! Its free shipping and its so fast,I ordered some scarves thursday evening and I received them this afternoon. I ordered 5 new hijabs! A yellow, red, turquoise, and grey pashmina and and a super cute navy, white, grey, and turquoise square hijab. I also order so colored push pens, they are so cute. Also, I received my Mastering Arabic book with 2 audio cd's. Alhadullilah! The book looks so cool and it teaches you everything and you use it with the cd's. The cool thing is it teaches you how to speak and write arabic,so I plan on getting through this book thoroughly and before ramadan begins in august..seems soon right?? So I really like the look of the pashmina scarf, they are both cute and stylish and functional and I have mastered the oblong shayla which is by far my favorite style but sometimes the scarfs I love only come in square and I cant wear this style right for some reason. I mean I can physically wear it but I dont really like how it looks on me. I have a few really cool scarves but they are square hijabs and 100% and I hate the way it lays around my face. First off, I am a little self conscious with hijab all together because I feel like I have a fat face( yes and I had'nt noticed till I wore hijab.. I suppose its been fat.LOL ) So on top of having a fat, face and being rather fair-skinned sometimes I feel like my face looks like a fat marshmallow. This may be a bit dramatic but thats why I like my scarf tied secure around my face. However, with these fancy shmancy polyester hijabs I end up looking ridiculus and I wanted to find a picture of a hijabi that looks like it,but ridiculing others isnt my style. So you just have to use your imagine. No matter how many pins I use I cant get the darn thing to lay right but I am a perfectionist so I will keep at it and let you know how it turns out. In the meantime, any tips are well appreciated!

Hey congrats on your new scarfs, Try searching youtube for square hijab how to's?
yayy I'm really happy you found a lot of stuff to suit you. hit up youtube and search hijab style videos, you'll find EVERYTHING and more there haha
I looooove square hijabs!!! Well actually I'm not sure if you're meaning triangle hijabs or the oblong ones but I love both so I still mean that. I have a "fat" face with hijab too, and I find oblongs and squares work best for me. Al-amiras are awful on me. I think there are a lot of youtube videos on both actually but I try to upload how to wear a triangle on my private blog if you want me to--I wear it very simply though. I think I learnt how to from the Hermes site, LOL.
As salaamu alaikum sister, Insha Allah you will truly enjoy your new scarfs . Hang in there with the square scarfs they are the type I wear,I love them. I had to figure them out as well and which style would work best for me . Be patient sister, Insha Allah your find which way best suits you, enjoy (smile) As salaamu alaikum
Salaams everyone and thanks for the comments. I will do some searching on you tube, bc like I said I end up looking ridiculus with square hijabs. LOL, the polyester ones.
Asalaamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!
Hoep you are well honey..
I have masses of square hijabs too but just dont know how to wear them!
I have this beautiful nude coloured one (very SS09!) and have masses of problem when trying to wrap it!
Soooo awkward!
Let me know how you get in - i think ill do a youtube search right now infact!
Hope all is well with you sis
x
You wouldn't believe how many ladies will approach you if you allow them to do so at the masjid. They will pin the square hijab and you'll look great. I usually use a ton of needles, never push pins. You can wrap it more fasionably this way. Good luck sis, love you!
All: Thanks to everyone! I found some cool vid's on you tube and I was able to wear a very pretty hijab today, alhamdullilah!
I don't know how to tie square hijabs properly either, hence i preferred longer scarves, oblong ones or pashminas I think they work best with my fat hijabi face lol. Anyhow, you can find different styles on youtube like others have said. Also, I sent you an email about the sisterhood!

The first two are pashminas and the second two are square... hope this helps
Asalaam alaykum sister!...
I had written another comment and I don't know how I erased it (tech is not my friend).
I wanted to congratulate because you've came a long way as a new muslim. I'm also a new muslim.
Your style is very fashionista, and that relates a lot to how out of place you felt at juma the other day, you're still learning, and that's really good. But proper hijab means dressing to cover yourself, not to stylish yourself, of course you don't have to wear crazy colors or things that don't match. But I've noticed how many sisters out there wear makeup, perfume, nail-varnish, etc. It's not up to me to judge, of course not!, we're all sisters, we're supposed to support each other. But I think that defeats the purpose of wearing hijab, because you'd be using it like a new way to look pretty, even if it's for yourself, I don't think that's the right thing to do. Our beauty is not for other people to see. Even though I'm sure you're a very beautiful woman, and "hiding it" won't be easy.
Inch'allah you'll understand what I'm trying to say here. I know I'm not there yet either, and by "there" I mean, the proper hijab style. But I try to improve everyday, that's what counts, isn't it? Inch'allah one day I'll be wearing abaya. :)
I hope to read more about you soon. May Allah lead you to the right path Inch'allah!!..
Salaam!
lol you crack me up, BUT I'M HAVING A SIMILAR PROBLEM!!! what do you do with the other dangly piece?! lol best of luck sister... [and email me if you figure it out, its would help out this frustrated sister, insha'allah]
Asalaam alaikum from the UK! This is such a sweet and artistic blog sister. :) First of all I would like to congratulate you for being brave and sacrificing your ego for the pleasure of Allah(SWT)in deciding to wear hijab. I hope you realise in today's visual society what an independent step that is, mashallah. I haven't been wearing hijab for very long myself, nearly a year.
I agree with what CareMuslimah said, you don't want to be too bright at juma because the objective is PRAYER lol. Stick to one neutral or dark colour with one soft pastel colour maybe? Also I agree that hijab is about re-educating yourself about your notion of beauty - aside from that type that you find in magazines. Hijab is personal and spiritual beauty.
Okay, on the square hijab thing, it is really hard, I only just got it sorted in my head today. You might want to try with a big square first to see what you're doing better.
1.Put on an underscarf. Fold the square into a triangle.
2. Put it on your head so that the length on the left side is as short as it can be, and the other side is long.
(HINT)One way to check if the short side is okay, is to take the corner of the short side and wrap it round the other side of your face until the short corner is pointing to your ear.
3. Where the short side meets the longer side (the corner should be hidden underneath)will be about the middle or just to the side of the chin.
4. You can pin this join secure or if your fabric is thin just pinch-hold it. You'll be left with one long corner hanging off what is already around your face.
5. Use the remaining long corner to tightly wrap over your first layer that you pinned or tucked.
6. At this point you should have a corner that's still a bit longer than your short one and still hanging down.
7. Take what's left of the long side and pin it at the chin for a "two split triangle" look: or if possible take the long side round the chin and pin it either just below or above the ear. This makes a cool two-layers diamond-shaped drape to one side. The top and bottom layers should be apparent but neat enough to be manageable.
This also looks nice if your hijab has a border all the way round because two "ribbons" of border get shown at the same time.
I hope this helps, sorry for writing so much, Allah hafiz and bless you. x
Hello ladies! I've been muslim for 4 years now, and i also would like to ask about this hijab style. I have been wearing it for years but in a normal and traditional way. I wanted it to look good and trendy with many colors put together.
i just saw few hours how to wear it in some sites, but i hope i could see it actual i mean in video coz even i see the pics, still its givin' me hard time doin' it myself.
Geez sorry ladies, but really I'm havin' hard time coz most of the people sorrounding me are christians and not wearing it, so there's no one in my flat or building to help me do this hijab style and fashion.
So if you won't mind me asking for some help, I would really appreciate it!
Thanx so much!!!
